National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS)
From September 2010 Shark Swim School will follow the National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS), powered by British Gas. This plan takes the non-swimmer on a journey from the first splash to developing confidence and competence in the water. There is a definite pathway to the NPTS, starting with the Foundation level, moving through the movement skill Stages 1-7 and culminating in the sport skill Stage 8-10.
Further information about the NPTS can be found at www. swimming.org
Details of the levels and awards may be found at the following links:
In January 2006 The ASA introduced a licencing scheme for Swimming Teachers and Coaches. This Licensing is part of the Government plans for enhancing the status and quality of teachers and coaches across all sports. What this means is that we can:
- Provide proof of competence
- Provide some protection for children through the Criminal Record Bureau
- Help to promote higher standards of Teaching and Coaching
- Provide for a separation of qualified / unqualified and licenced/unlicenced staff
- Commit to upholding the code of ethics in swimming
